The classic shape is mountains then sea. Start in the hill country around Nuwara Eliya, Ella and Haputale, where colonial-era planters' bungalows have become small hotels with fireplaces, gardens and views straight down the valley. Take the Kandy to Ella train for at least one leg — it is genuinely one of the great rail journeys, and the reserved observation seats are worth booking early. Then drop to the coast for the second half: Bentota and Mirissa on the south-west, or Pasikuda and Trincomalee on the east depending on the season.
We keep honeymoon itineraries deliberately light on scheduled activity. The point is not to tick off eight UNESCO sites in nine days. Expect a slower pace, later starts, private dining arranged where the hotel does it well, and enough unplanned time that you can decide on the morning whether today is a temple or a hammock.
Tell us your dates, your budget and roughly how you like to travel, and we will send a costed itinerary — usually within 24 hours. If you want to add a few days of Ayurveda, a whale-watching morning or a night in a tented safari camp, all of it fits.
