Luxury in Sri Lanka is less about marble lobbies than about access and space. The island's best hotels are often small — a restored Dutch merchant's house inside Galle Fort, a Geoffrey Bawa villa above a lagoon, a tea planter's bungalow with four rooms and a resident cook. Booking the whole island as a chain of these places, connected by a private car, is the trip most of our returning guests come back for.

Our luxury itineraries are private from the airport onward. You travel with a dedicated chauffeur-guide in a high-specification vehicle, sites are timed to avoid the tour-bus hours, and where an experience is genuinely better done privately — a Sigiriya climb before the gates get busy, an evening at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a Yala safari with a naturalist rather than a shared jeep — we arrange it that way.

We are a local operator, which matters more at this end of the market than it sounds. We know which of the villa properties actually deliver, which hill-country bungalows are worth the drive, and which beach hotels have quietly declined since their reviews were written. When we recommend a hotel it is because we are checking it ourselves, not because it is on a brochure.

What makes a tour 'luxury' in Sri Lanka?

In practice it comes down to three things: the standard of accommodation, whether the trip is genuinely private, and how much access you get. Our luxury itineraries use boutique and five-star properties, run with a dedicated vehicle and chauffeur-guide throughout, and time the major sites to avoid the busiest hours.

Can a luxury itinerary be fully tailor-made?

Yes — most are. The packages listed here are starting points that guests adapt heavily. Send us your dates, preferred hotel standard and interests, and we will build and cost a bespoke itinerary, usually within 24 hours.

Do you use international five-star chains or boutique hotels?

Both, depending on where you are. Colombo and a few beach locations have strong international properties. Inland and in the hill country the best rooms on the island are almost always small independent hotels, villas and restored bungalows, and we will say so rather than default to a recognisable brand name.
