About This Tour

Seven nights at Ulpotha, a secluded eco-wellness sanctuary set around a lake in dry-zone countryside, where the programme is yoga twice daily, vegetarian meals with herbal teas and fresh juices, a massage with the visiting therapist, and an excursion to nearby heritage sites. Accommodation is in open, nature-facing huts — simple by design rather than luxurious. Two gentle days in Kandy and Pinnawala follow before the flight home.

DAY 1

Arrival & Transfer to Ulpotha

Met at Bandaranaike International Airport by our representative and chauffeur, then driven inland to Ulpotha — a secluded eco-wellness sanctuary set among paddy, forest and a spring-fed lake. Arrival day is kept deliberately light. Check in to your hut, settle into the surroundings and take the rest of the day at your own pace.

DAY 2

Settling Into the Retreat Rhythm

The retreat sets its own daily rhythm: yoga in the morning, a long unhurried middle of the day, and a second session in the late afternoon. Meals are vegetarian, cooked from what the gardens and the surrounding villages produce, and eaten together. There is no schedule to keep beyond the one you choose.

DAY 3

Ayurvedic Consultation & First Treatments

Guests who have booked one of the Ayurvedic courses begin with a consultation, after which the resident doctor prescribes the treatments and any internal preparations for the days that follow. Everything is matched to your constitution rather than picked from a menu. Yoga continues twice daily alongside.

DAY 4

Treatments, Yoga & Rest

A full day inside the retreat programme. Treatments continue to the doctor's prescription, yoga runs morning and late afternoon, and the hours between are genuinely free — swimming in the lake, reading, walking the paddy bunds, or doing nothing at all, which is rather the point.

DAY 5

Heritage Excursion Day

Once during the week the retreat runs an excursion to nearby cultural heritage sites, using its own transport. Ulpotha sits within reach of the dry-zone heritage belt, so this is the day the outside world comes back into view briefly. Guests who would rather stay put are under no obligation to go.

DAY 6

Massage & Continued Programme

The stay includes one massage with a visiting therapist, usually scheduled around this point in the week. Ayurvedic treatments and the twice-daily yoga continue. By now most guests have stopped checking the time, which is the change the week is designed to produce.

Sri Lanka Ayurveda: From Ancient Healing to the Legacy of G. P. Wickramarachchi

Ayurveda in Sri Lanka is far older and deeper than the treatment menu at a beach resort. This is the story of how the island's indigenous healing knowledge travelled from village physicians to a rural college founded in 1929, and finally to a national university of indigenous medicine.

Ella to Mirissa: The Attractions Everyone Drives Past

Almost every Sri Lanka itinerary runs Ella to the south coast with a single safari in the middle and four hours of car window either side. The stretch in between — Sri Lanka's driest, strangest corner — holds a 300-acre botanic garden, a drive-through safari park, hot springs and a red plateau found nowhere else on the island.

Beyond Ella: Why Haputale Could Be Sri Lanka's Most Underrated Highland Escape

Ella is a destination. Haputale is a gateway. One ridge west of Sri Lanka's most photographed hill town sits a quieter railway village with colonial bones, a viewpoint at nearly 2,000 metres, a Benedictine monastery in a Tudor house, and road access to some of the island's most demanding mountain routes.
